The Washington Commanders are expected to add depth to their running back room on the heels of a big Week 3 win. Ian Rapoport reported that the Commanders are expected to sign free agent running back Austin Ekeler to their 53-man roster pending a physical.
Ekeler was a fan favorite during his previous stint in Washington and is now healthy after recovering from an Achilles tear, ready to contribute at the NFL level again.
What Ekeler brings to the Commanders’ backfield
If Ekeler does sign with the team, he’ll join Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, and rookie Kaytron Allen in the backfield to provide additional depth. Ekeler is a reliable third-down option and a strong contributor in the pass protection game.
