In today’s world of recruiting, it often happens that programs get a chance to get a player twice. With the transfer portal as active as ever in college football, players are often being recruited two or more times.
Ohio State has a few needs from the transfer portal this go around and one is running back. The Buckeyes are interested in USC transfer Quinten Joyner, but he is not the only back to keep an eye on.
The Buckeyes are showing interest in Alabama transfer running back Justice Haynes, according to On3. Haynes is a player that Ohio State recruited out of high school, but ended up signing with Alabama.
With TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins both likely off to the NFL after this season, Ohio State needs to build depth around what is going to be a very young running back room. Haynes would be a player that they could add to bring some experience to the unit.
Haynes had seven touchdowns and 447 rushing yards at a 5.7 yards per carry clip in 2024 for the Crimson Tide. As a true freshman, Haynes had 168 yards and two touchdowns in 2023.
As mentioned, the Buckeyes recruited Haynes out of high school and was one of the schools in the running for him at one point. Haynes was the No. 2 running back in the class of 2023 out of Georgia and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he landed with the Bulldogs either. Haynes is currently ranked as the No. 1 transfer running back, according to 247 Sports.
Ohio State was very aggressive in the portal last year and they are expected to add several players again this year. Judkins was a big addition last year, we’ll see if they can go get another SEC running back this cycle. Haynes would be a positive fit for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State is said to be in a ‘good position’ to land top player at major need from the transfer portal
Appears the Buckeyes are closing in.
