With the NCAA Transfer Portal officially opening back up on December 9th, we have already seen a long list of talented players announce their intentions to enter. It’s expected to be a strong group of quarterbacks this portal cycle, with Kaidon Salter (Liberty) and John Mateer (Washington State) already having entered. More talented signal callers will follow.
One quarterback to keep a close eye on is South Carolina star LaNorris Sellers, who has been one of the hotter signal callers down the stretch of the 2024 season. On the year, the redshirt freshman has thrown for 2,274 yards and 17 touchdowns, while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes.
What makes Sellers even more special is the athleticism he brings to the table at 6-3 and 242 pounds. After his huge performance against Clemson last weekend in the victory, he has now rushed for 655 yards and seven more scores on the ground. That combination brings a special upside to the table.
It should be no surprise that there is heavy interest out there for Sellers to potentially enter the portal, including a ton in the SEC. From the sounds of it, there is also legitimate interest from the Sellers’ camp to at least explore options. There is an openness to understanding the full market.
Some schools that are expected to be heavily in the Transfer Portal quarterback market this offseason include Auburn, Miami, Michigan, Florida State, and Alabama (depending on if Jalen Milroe declares for the 2025 NFL Draft) among others. One school in particular on that list is expected to be especially interested in Sellers, and would largely be viewers as the front runner.
As it currently stands, the expectation is that it’s more likely that Sellers does test the portal after this season. Things can obviously change, but his presence in the portal could very much reshape the SEC conference. In the end, he could be the crowned jewel of the quarterback class overall.
