The Georgia Bulldogs could get a huge boost to Carson Beck's passing game just in time for their 2024 College Football Playoff push.
According to sources close to Sports Illustrated, wide receiver Colbie Young returned to practice this week.
Young was arrested on October 8 on battery and assault charges after his ex-girlfriend called the cops when the two got into a heated argument. About one month later, however, the alleged victim called the police report from that night "slanted" and asked that any statements attributed to her saying Young attempted to cause injury to her be "retracted.”
Following the initial arrest, Young was suspended "indefinitely" from the team until his case was resolved. While there is no indication of whether or not the case has officially been dismissed, it's a very good sign that he is back with the team.
Unfortunately, Young's return to practice does not mean he will be available to play against Georgia Tech this Friday or in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 7.
His hold-up may have to do with his arraignment hearing date set for Dec. 10. Once that is over, Young will hopefully be cleared to suit up and back on the field at the start of the Bulldogs' playoff run.
That is, of course, if Georgia makes it to the playoffs. For now, they must beat the Yellow Jackets to make sure of it. It is also ideal that they win the SEC championship because a loss could make things a bit more complicated.
Young, a senior transfer from Miami, has played in just five games for Georgia this season but made a large impact while logging 11 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
