Penn State set to get a huge chance to impress a five-star signal caller from SEC country who every major program is after
The Penn State Nittany Lions are in hot pursuit of an elite 2027 quarterback recruit
The Penn State Nittany Lions entered the 2025 college football season with a ton of expectations. Head coach James Franklin has an extremely talented squad that managed to retain a lot of its top talent overall. It starts with quarterback Drew Allar, who is currently projected to be one of the top signal callers in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Whenever you have a talented quarterback leading the way, there will always be optimism around your program.
When Allar leaves following the 2025 season, there are some questions about what the future of the quarterback position is going to look like for Penn State. Redshirt freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer looks like the most realistic option right now, but who knows what the long-term really looks like. Although it won’t happen for a couple of years, the Nittany Lion staff is also pursuing some top 2027 quarterback recruits that should get the fan base excited.
Widely considered the top signal caller in the 2027 class is Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School quarterback Elijah Haven, who Penn State is pursuing heavily. Although not considered a favorite for the 6-5, 215-pound signal caller right now, Penn State is set to get a huge chance to impress the Louisiana native. It has been reported that Haven will be heading to Happy Valley on September 27th for their game against the Oregon Ducks. That game is going to be a White Out, which will present a great atmosphere for Haven to experience.
Who knows if Penn State will be able to move the needle with Haven, but getting him on campus is a huge deal. Schools like Florida, LSU, and Michigan are also pushing extremely hard. The Nittany Lions need to impress to have any sort of chance in the end.
Haven is already considered to be an elite recruit in the 2027 class by many. On the 247Sports Composite ranking, he is rated as a five-star player for the class. For the 247Sports individual ranking, Haven is currently pegged as the top overall player and quarterback in the county for the 2027 group.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that a long list of impressive schools have been pursuing Haven heavily. Some of his top offers so far include the Nittany Lions, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, SMU, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Houston among many others.
As a sophomore in 2024, Haven put together an incredible season for the Dunham School. The 6-5, 215-pound athlete managed to throw for 3,093 yards and 37 touchdowns, while throwing just seven interceptions. Haven also rushed for another 925 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground, leading the team to a 14-1 overall record and Louisiana’s Division III Selection state championship.
