On Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners hosted ESPN College GameDay in Norman, Oklahoma, and legendary Sooners basketball player Trae Young was the guest picker.

Young is from Norman, played for Oklahoma, and now plays for the Atlanta Hawks as one of the best point guards in the NBA. He’s also the assistant general manager of the Sooners basketball program. Young made his picks, and was the only one on the set of ESPN College GameDay to pick the Mississippi State Bulldogs to upset the Arizona State Sun Devils, who were ranked No. 12 in the country. The Bulldogs then used Young to help them troll all of the haters who didn’t pick them.

Mississippi State posted a video on Twitter of Young picking them to win, the GameDay panel laughing at him, and then a mix tape of plays from the game, sprinkled in with some of Young’s highlights in the NBA. To top it all off, they tagged Young on Twitter with the salute emoji.

The Bulldogs have quickly become America’s sweetheart.

Sooners SEC foe, Mississippi State, had one heck of a Saturday

“What a night it was for Mississippi State in Starkville on Saturday night. The Bulldogs defense stood up when it mattered most, and the explosive Jeff Lebby offense made enough explosive plays to take the top off the Sun Devils defense. Brenen Thompson, a key transfer addition at wide receiver from the Sooners, made the game-winning play in the final moments of the fourth quarter. Thompson has elite, repeat elite, speed and showed it with multiple receptions and YAC moves. The former Oklahoma wideout has had a strong relationship with Lebby for some time, and it’s seemingly now paying off in a huge way for the maroon and white. There’s no doubt that Trae Young and plenty of other Sooner supporters were happy to see him make a major play to help his team get the victory. OU and State won’t matchup with each other this season, but both have an absolute gauntlet of a remaining schedule during SEC play.” – Adam Holt, A to Z Sports

State has been through some pretty tough stuff over the last few years, and while them and OU aren’t rivals, you still never wish what they’ve been through on even an in-conference foe. No one deserved that win more than they did, and the Sooners fan base is glad that one of their legends could help be a part of their special moment.
