Hugh Freeze and Jackson Arnold confirm who the real Auburn Tigers hero is on offense coming off huge Week 3 win
Jackson Arnold has been sold at QB, but admits the star has been an RB
The Auburn Tigers are 3-0, and they’ve made it largely look rather easy up to this point. Jackson Arnold has gotten more comfortable in Hugh Freeze’s offense. The defense has held up and created plenty of havoc along their front. However, the real hero for the Auburn Tigers has been one more player than any other: running back Jeremiah Cobb.
Following the Tigers’ easy 31-15 victory over South Alabama this weekend both QB Jackson Arnold and head coach Hugh Freeze couldn’t help but gush over the breakout season that Cobb is putting together.
Jeremiah Cobb is Auburn Tigers hero again with another 100-yard game, toughing it out with broken hand
Jeremiah Cobb has already racked up 314 rushing yards and four touchdowns through just three games this season for the Auburn Tigers. He’s posted back to back 100-yard games. He’s averaging nearly seven yards per carry, and just shy of 3.5 yards after contact per tote. Cobb is just putting up some wild numbers, carrying the entire offense at times.
Hugh Freeze expressed just how grateful he was for the “much needed” breakout performance, but he certainly wasn’t surprised:
“Yeah, [Jeremiah Cobb’s impact] is big. I think my prediction back in summer and spring meetings that he would have a breakout year I think’s becoming true. It’s two consecutive 100-yard games in a row. And I thought they were tough runs today, too, a lot of them. Number one, he took care of the ball very well. And that’s something we’ve worked on with him a lot. Give coach Nix and coach Spurlock a lot of credit for that. It’s good see [Cobb] have that success, and it’s much needed.”
Jackson Arnold also joined in, praising his star running back, talking about just how much it means to have a running back that you can trust to do anything and everything that an offense needs:
“It’s awes0me. I trust Jeremiah [Cobb]…Having a guy like Cobb that I know can run and get a dirty five yards just gives me peace of mind. Knowing in the RPO game, if there’s any indecision at all, if I hand that ball off, I know we’re going to get four or five yards.”
Cobb has been so reliable for Auburn. 10 missed tackles forced. Six plays of 10+ rushing yards. Multiple runs of 40+ yards on the year. It will be good when Auburn gets other running back talents back healthy like Damari Alston and Durell Robinson, but it’s great to know that the Tigers have a running back like Cobb that they can trust. Hopefully that continues as Auburn kicks off SEC play against Oklahoma in Week 4.
