Florida State Seminoles missed out on a perfect opportunity in 2025 and it’s showing during their bye week
The Florida State Seminoles should be a top team in the ACC in 2025.
The Florida State Seminoles are missing out on a prime opportunity right now, and their bye week showed that. This year, the Seminoles should be a team that’s at the top of the ACC, and yet, they’re at the bottom. When you look across the ACC, it’s not the Miami Hurricanes at the top or any notable team. It’s the two teams that have been some of the worst in the conference the last 10 years or so that are leading.
If Georgia Tech, the No. 8 team in the new AP Poll, and Virginia, the No. 15 team in the new AP Poll, can be the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country, FSU can. And, to see how well those teams are doing, has to make the Seminoles feel like they’re doing something wrong.
That’s just the current era of college football, where there’s more parity and anyone can be good. If those teams have adapted to it, there’s no reason the Seminoles shouldn’t be able to.
Mike Norvell coaching stats
- Mike Norvell has an overall record of 33–27 (.550)
- Mike Norvell has an ACC record of 20–24
- Has a 13–1 season in 2023, winning the ACC Championship
- ACC Coach of the Year and Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach of the Year honors in 2023
- Despite a strong 10–3 record in 2022, his 2024 season was a disappointing 2–10, marking FSU’s worst performance since 1974.
Seminoles have no excuses
“It’s college football,” Norvell told reporters last Wednesday. “There’s great parity. Every team, if you give [them] opportunities, they’re all capable. It’s a weekly focus. Is your best going to show up? If you’re not able to execute to your best, if you’re not able to respond, if you have a bad play or a bad moment, anybody can give you challenges. I believe in this team. I believe in the talent we have and the way we will finish. I know what we’re capable of.”
Yes, it’s college football, and that’s why these teams are doing as well as they are. However, Georgia Tech and Virginia do not have the history, the prestige, the alumni, notoriety, and resources that FSU has. So, there is really no excuse. Take SMU last year, for example, their first year ever in the ACC, and they went to the Championship Game in Charlotte.
Why can’t FSU do that every other year, or at least be mediocre every year? This is on track to be their second straight losing season, and that’s just unacceptable.
