Florida Gators make peculiar scheduling decision that coincidently lines up with Lane Kiffin

The entire college football world is waiting on Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin to make a decision on where he wants to coach next season. Ever since the Florida Gators fired Billy Napier, Kiffin has been the top coaching candidate.

Not only is he the offensive guru the fanbase craves, Kiffin also idolizes the “Head Ball Coach” Steve Spurrier. That sounds like a recipe for success in Gainesville, but they aren’t the only ones fighting to have Kiffin on their sidelines, as Ole Miss wants him to return, and the LSU Tigers just offered him a massive contract.

Florida Gators cancelled volleyball game lines up with Lane Kiffin

Wednesday night brought news from the Gators that the volleyball team cancelled its game against North Florida on Saturday, Nov. 29. That was a pretty innocuous announcement. The Gators are preparing for the SEC Championship that starts this Saturday, Nov. 22, and will presumably make the NCAA tournament.

In real time, this wasn’t that big of a deal. It was essentially a tune-up kind of game in the O’Dome. Why have things changed? That date also coincides with Kiffin’s decision.

On Friday, Kiffin met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter, and the statement released after that meeting explicitly mentioned that an announcement regarding the future would come after the Egg Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 29.

With an announcement of Kiffin’s future coming on the 29th, it raises the question: Was the volleyball game cancelled for a reason? The O’Dome would be perfect to host Kiffin for an introductory celebration after the football team beats the Florida State Seminoles, which will likely be early in the day, as the time hasn’t been announced yet.

It will be an interesting week until the announcement is made, but this seemingly nothing announcement could end up meaning something.
