Penn State football just got some terrible news at the worst time as they’re set to start conference play this week
The Penn State Nittany Lions did not want to be talking about missing wide receiver Koby Howard this week.
The Penn State Nittany Lions look like a team that can compete for the BIG TEN championship. Not many, if any, think this team is better than Ohio State. But the schedule is very easy. However, that easy schedule may not matter because Matt Campbell’s squad keeps getting injured. This time it’s star wide receiver, Koby Howard.
We learned about Howard’s injury before Wednesday.
“Koby Howard got dinged up on that long touchdown run, and I think right now, we don’t know exactly where he’ll be by the end of the week. … Kind of went through a couple things yesterday & just trying to gauge exactly where he is,” Campbell said.
Now, on Wednesday, there’s another update. And, it doesn’t appear to be anything good. The only positive is that he’s not out for the year, barring any crazy setback.
“Disappointing for Koby, but he’s handled it really well,” Campbell told reporters on Wednesday. “I think the best interest of him going forward is making sure we do right by him and certainly our football team.”
Penn State is about to be without maybe their best offensive player
Howard has burst onto the scene as maybe the best player on Penn State’s offense. Sure, you can make arguments for other players, but his stats tell a huge story. He’s got 12 catches for 344 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Not to mention, he also has a 20-yard rushing touchdown. Howard has been outstanding.
Now they will need someone else to pick up the pieces in the wide receiver room. The only other player on the roster with at least 100 receiving yards is Chase Sowell with 126. He’s been great, with some big-time catches and strong blocks in the run game. But he’s no Howard in the pass game. Penn State will definitely have to figure something out.
