If you’re a non-conference team who wants to schedule a game against LSU, then Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin has a message for you.

Think twice.

LSU cruised to a 63-14 win over McNeese on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

At one point, LSU had a 49-0 lead, and there was talk about using a running clock.

Kiffin, however, declined the running clock.

After the game, Kiffin made it clear that he doesn’t believe in using a running clock. Part of his reason is because he wants to make it so that other teams don’t want to schedule LSU.

“We talked in the locker room and then came out, and there was a conversation where they asked me, ‘Do you want to run the clock in the third and fourth quarter?’” said Kiffin. “And I said, ‘No, I just don’t believe in that.’ You play the game, man. We decide when the game’s over by the way that we play and how physical we play.”

“I told the guys why I told them that. We don’t do that. And I challenged them to come out and play really well and set a tempo of how you play at a standard regardless if whether you’re the first, second or third team, about how you play at LSU. And how you should make the game that people don’t want to schedule you.”

That’s the mindset of a true competitor. There are all kinds of opinions out there on Kiffin. Some are fair, some aren’t. But regardless of any of those opinions, there’s no denying that he’s an elite competitor.
