Florida Gators await commitment from top defensive target, and one roadblock still remains
Despite having 24 commitments in the class of 2027, Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall is closing in on another commitment.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has been a great recruiter out of the gate.
He had just four days to lock down the 2026 recruiting class, finding a way to keep it intact other than two recruits, while adding a couple of his own. The Gators have the No. 8 recruiting class in the nation and are tied for second with 16 blue-chip commitments. Despite a large class, he’s not holding back from landing even more talent.
Florida Gators await decision from four-star CB Raheem Floyd
Right now, the top two targets for the Gators are five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. Outside of those two, the Gators are waiting on four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd.
He was originally going to commit on July 1st, but pushed it back to July 7th. Gators Online highlighted that it was due to a state rule preventing contact with his high school coaches.
“Since then, Floyd’s recruitment has shifted slightly due to timing. His original July 1 commitment date has now been pushed back to July 7 due to state rules that temporarily limit communication with his high school staff during that week. That extra time has created a small window for programs to make one final push, with Florida, Missouri and Ole Miss all still involved as decision day approaches.”
It would be a nice coup for the Gators to, not just land Floyd, but get him over an SEC rival in the Missouri Tigers would be a nice bonus. However, having extra time to mull over his decision could get the Tigers back into the race.
Floyd is ranked as the No. 22 and the No. 171 overall recruit in the nation per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking. Right now, the Gators have six predictions from recruiting experts at Rivals. Being able to land him would be a major coup for the class, adding to a talented group of defensive backs, led by four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain.
