Florida Gators reach important benchmark with four-star recruit with an announced commitment date
Jon Sumrall has been a really impressive recruiter for the Florida Gators, and he’s finally taking notice of one position.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has been doing a great job with recruiting. After finding a way to salvage the 2026 recruiting class by retaining all but one commit from Billy Napier‘s final class.
Within the Gators’ 2027 recruiting class, only six of the 16 commitments are on the defensive side of the football. Among those, none of them are at linebacker. They are targeting multiple players, including securing an official visit from rising three-star Drew Williams out of Georgia, and are among the leaders for another intriguing player.
Florida Gators in top linebacker’s final four
Four-star linebacker Isaac McNeil is one of the top linebackers in the class of 2027, and he will be announcing his commitment on June 2nd. McNeil will be choosing between the Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs.
Out of Mobile, Alabama, McNeil is a 6-3 and 210 pound player, ranking No. 82 for Rivals, and the No. 9 linebacker. Landing him for the second level would be massive for the Gators, but they have an uphill battle to climb.
The Auburn Tigers are currently trending to land McNeil, with 84% on the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine. It makes sense with Auburn less than 200 miles away from Mobile. Even so, Gainesville is only 348 miles away. He’s visited the campus three times, with an official visit scheduled for the weekend of June 11th. Linebackers coach Greg Gasparato has appeared to make him a priority with the amount of communication between the two.
As a player, McNeil is an explosive player when triggering downhill. He sees what’s happening in front of him well and isn’t afraid of thumping an offensive lineman. McNeil displays positives as a tackler as well, keeping his head up and wrapping up the ball carrier. Those elements are exactly what the Gators could use on the second level. Plus, he did some kicking.
His commitment date will be June 2nd, and if the Gators want to land him, it’ll take some work, but they are on the right track.
