One of the more important things in college football is the combination of aura and vibe. It isn’t everything, but that combination is massive to securing top recruits. You can feel it when you walk onto a college campus.

Over the past 30+ years, the Florida Gators have had that vibe. From Steve Spurrier’s Fun N Gun to the Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer era, there have been incredible vibes in Gainesville. That’s the biggest thing that Jon Sumrall has to recapture. So far, it’s trending that way.

Florida Gators are recapturing the vibes

Recapturing the positive vibes that the program once had isn’t the easiest challenge. It’s especially difficult with how poor the vibes have been over the past 15+ years.

Luckily, Sumrall is fixing that, already landing 10 commitments and working hard for top recruit Jalen Brewster. With the vibes coming up in droves, On3 Sports’ JD PicKell had a fascinating comparison: Rainforest Cafe.

“The temperature at which Florida seems to be operating at from the top down, finally feels like it fits Florida. And listen, vibe in college football is not everything, but I think it’s a lot more important than people give credit for in college football and in life. Rainforest Cafe. Shout out them. Great example of this. The food isn’t anything to write hell about. It’s not bad, but it’s not the reason why you go to Rainforest Cafe. You go to Rainforest Cafe because you got animatronic Amazon creatures all over that place, with the monkeys. I think there’s like alligators, and there’s like fake waterfalls that there’s a lot going on in Rainforest Cafe where, okay, this vibe is sick. That’s Florida. And again, vibe doesn’t win you football games. But I think the vibe was pretty bad a year ago for Florida in terms of what it was going to take to win football games. They didn’t have that, I will go cut my own arm off and bleed out the 50 yard line to get us a win here. Whoever it is on this roster, on this coaching staff, y’all, that’s John Sumrall to a T.”

It’s an interesting comparison, especially considering the depth of talent on the roster. There isn’t the elite level depth we’ve seen in past years, but there is top end talent. Once they get that depth with a couple of good recruiting classes, the comparison will improve.

Either way, it’s good to see how things are developing.
