LSU Tigers just lost out on an elite recruit to the last school Lane Kiffin wants to lose recruits to
The LSU Tigers are recruiting very well, but they can’t be losing battles to Lane Kiffin’s old school.
The LSU Tigers have been recruiting very well since Lane Kiffin was hired as the head coach. They have the No. 11 class in the 2027 recruiting cycle. They also have the No. 4 class in the SEC, with a Rivals composite score of 90.1. So, all things considered, they are doing pretty well.
However, if there’s one thing certain about Kiffin, it’s that he hates to lose. He hates being made to look bad, and he especially will hate it when it’s his former school—the one he left for LSU. Right now, it seems most of the college football world is turned against him, and Ole Miss winning a recruiting battle over LSU and Kiffin is not what he wants.
On Sunday, Ole Miss landed four-star wide receiver Miguel Whitley, the no. 66th overall recruit in the 2027 class. LSU appeared to come in second in the race, with Ole Miss winning at the last proverbial second, according to Rivals’ rankings and projections. And that’s also saying something, because LSU is considered one of the “Wide Receiver U” schools in the country.
But Ole Miss actually used one of their legendary wide receivers to land Whitley.
Former Ole Miss WR DK Metcalf met Miguel Whitley
“When I went there, I met with DK (Metcalf), so just seeing that really opened my eyes … seeing the biggest of the biggest come from that school,” Whitley told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman this spring. “It’s like a blueprint.”
LSU is still going after several wide receivers in the 2027 recruiting class. And it’s not the end of the world, as they have one WR on their 2027 committed list right now: Ah’Mari Stevens. He’s a four-star WR ranked No. 40 at his position.
The Tigers have sent out offers to 26 wide receivers in this cycle. Sure, they aren’t currently projected to land any of them, but it’s still so early.
