The Miami Hurricanes are starting to pick up a little bit of steam on the recruiting trail. Despite a couple of big misses this week in five star OT Mark Matthews and DL David Folorunsho, Mario Cristobal notched a two-for-one Sunday that started to bring some positive momentum back to Miami after a strong start to the month.

Miami landed the commitment of 2027 Lake Worth, FL (Santaluces Community) EDGE Jayvon Dawson, who picked the Hurricanes over Georgia and North Carolina.

Dawson is a local player who hasn’t gotten much attention at all from the recruiting services. He is completely off the radar with ESPN and is a three-star linebacker with 247 Sports and Rivals. On Rivals’ industry rankings, he comes in as the No. 722 player overall, No. 64 linebacker, and No. 80 player in the state of Florida for the 2027 cycle .

But the Lake Worth product still was disruptive enough to earn a scholarship from Kirby Smart. His offer list also includes Kentucky, Purdue, Pittsburgh, NC State, Maryland, and South Florida, among others.

Regardless of rankings, Dawson was disruptive last season for Santaluces Community. He totaled 68 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and eight sacks across 10 games.

It was the second notable win for Cristobal and the Hurricanes over Georgia this month. Cristobal was able to pick up a huge win when he flipped five-star Long Beach, CA CB Donte Wright from the Bulldogs.

Dawson becomes the 13th player and the first linebacker to join Miami’s 2027 class, which currently ranks sixth in the latest On3/Rivals team rankings.
