A former Ohio State football coach is trying to land Ryan Day’s son as a college recruit at his new Big Ten home
RJ Day is sitting at 18 offers now following the latest news around Ohio State football HC Ryan Day’s son. Don’t be surprised if the younger Day ends up in the Big Ten.
He’s not going to end up with the Ohio State Buckeyes, but Ryan Day’s son RJ Day is a high-major college football recruit in the 2027 cycle.
The three-star quarterback from DeSales (OH) is entering a pivotal summer for his recruitment ahead of his final season of high school football. The latest school to extend an offer to Day just so happens to have its offense run by a former Ohio State coach.
Another Big Ten school is in the mix to land RJ Day
Northwestern is the latest school to offer the 5-foot-11 quarterback and the offer from the Wildcats should grab attention. Former Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly just so happens to be the play caller for Northwestern. Day took to X to thank Kelly for the offer.
Kelly isn’t the first former Ohio State coach to offer the son of Ohio State’s head football coach. Brian Hartline offered Day a scholarship at South Florida in early April as well.
It’s important to note the head man in Columbus played for Kelly at New Hampshire and they’ve coached together at both the college and NFL level. Kelly and Day have a friendship to this day, so the offer makes sense on multiple fronts.
Day is up to 18 college offers now with schools like Purdue, Boston College, Syracuse, and Cincinnati in the mix. According to 247 Sports’ Composite, Day is the No. 82 quarterback and No. 1,290 player in the class of 2027.
Expect a big final season from Day at DeSales ahead of the jump to college. At this time, there’s no word on where Day when commit, or where he will take his official visits.
