The Oklahoma Sooners are making a strong push for one of the best recruits in the entire 2028 recruiting class. Kellan Hall, the No. 2 overall player in the class, the No. 1 player at his position, and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky, has Oklahoma on his shortlist and continues to praise what the Sooners bring to the table.
Hall is a 6’5, 280-pound defensive lineman with a 97.70 overall composite rating and an NIL valuation of $207K per On3. He’s an elite prospect and one of the best defensive lineman recruits we’ve seen in a long time.
Hall has narrowed his focus to five schools: Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Alabama. He’s taken four visits to Notre Dame, four to Ohio State, three to Oklahoma, three to Tennessee, two to Louisville, and two to Alabama. The Sooners seem to be gaining serious momentum in this recruitment.
What makes Kellan Hall so special?
Hall is a talented two-way lineman at the high school level, but he projects as an elite defensive front player at the next level. His 6’5, 280-pound frame is already SEC-ready, and that large frame should easily carry 300-plus pounds as he continues to physically mature.
He tests as an elite athlete, consistently running the 40-yard dash in the 4.8 to 4.9 range at national camps. He’s disruptive and productive as a defender with high speed-to-power ability, walking back offensive linemen with ease at the high school level. He’s also capable of lining up in multiple fronts along the defensive line, giving coordinators scheme versatility from day one.
Hall keeps praising Oklahoma’s defensive line culture
Hall said Oklahoma is on his shortlist and that the Sooners keep delivering. When asked what stands out about the program, he pointed directly to the defensive line play.
“The D-line play for sure. They move around and are just so disruptive on every play. This style of play is so electric and very enticing. Coach Venable’s resume speaks for itself and just continues to add to the legacy that he has built throughout his career. It would definitely be special.”
That’s a powerful endorsement from one of the top recruits in the country. If coach Brent Venables gets his hands on a player like Hall, the things Oklahoma could do on defense would be remarkable.
Landing Hall would continue Oklahoma’s defensive line pipeline
The Sooners already have players like David Stone and Jayden Jackson coming through the ranks on the defensive line, but they haven’t had a five-star defensive tackle commit since Stone. Landing another one would elevate the program’s defensive front to another level entirely.
Hall definitely seems like a player who can be one of the best in the country by the time he arrives on campus. Oklahoma’s pitch is clearly resonating, and the Sooners look like they’re in a strong position to land him.
