The Penn State Nittany Lions started the 2027 recruiting cycle a bit behind since they just hired a new head coach. But their class is doing fine, all things considered. However, it needs to be doing better, especially after a recent flip.

On Monday, the Nittany Lions suffered a loss to their class. Four-star wide receiver Jamir Dean from Tennessee flipped from PSU to the Georgia Bulldogs. Still, Penn State has the 21st-ranked class in the country. However, the Nittany Lions will not be acting like that flip didn’t hurt them. We are talking about the No. 5 player in Tennessee, the No. 18 wide receiver in the class, and a top 130 player in the country.

So, why did he flip?

Former Penn State commit Jamir Dean flips to Georgia

“It’s Georgia, man. You can’t really pass up on Georgia,” Dean told DawgsHQ reporter Jeremy Johnson. “They’ve been good since Kirby [Smart] got there. It’s been consistent with them. They’ve been a top team. They’ve won two national championships. They’re always fighting to go to a national championship and win it.”

Last season, Dean totaled 53 receptions for 1,141 yards and 16 touchdowns during Alcoa’s state championship season. He’s one of the best receivers in the country for a reason. Dean is a pure athlete who has also won a state basketball championship. The Nittany Lions are truly taking a massive hit with this flip.

PSU still has four-star wide receiver Landon Blumm committed to their 2027 class. They are also pursuing and are expected to land four-star wide receivers Khalil Taylor and Deshawn Hall. But, they are in a battle for the two with some really, really good programs.

Matt Campbell has done a good job, all things considered. It still needs to be better, but fans shouldn’t let this flip ruin their vibe on the class.
