Desperate QB Rooms, Take Notes: The top landing spots for Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby via the Supplemental Draft
With former Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby entering the 2026 Supplemental Draft, where will he end up? There are several intriguing landing spots.
After one of the more chaotic eligibility processes of all time, former Cincinnati and Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby officially declared for the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft this week. If the NFL approves the application and holds the event, there is expected to be some high demand for the talented signal caller.
The 2026 NFL Draft boasted a poor quarterback class, so there is still a ton of need at the position around the NFL. Let’s take a look at some of the most likely landing spots for Sorsby at the end of July, and some other wildcards to consider. The next few weeks are going to be very entertaining.
THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Here are some NFL teams to keep a close eye on to potentially draft Sorsby.
New York Jets
With the quarterback formerly known as Geno Smith set to lead this Jets offense, the staff needs to find their quarterback of the future. They drafted former Clemson signal caller Cade Klubnik in the 2026 NFL Draft, but that’s probably nothing more than a dart throw. The Jets are one of the early favorites to be heavily in the 2027 quarterback market. That could start that process earlier than expected.
Cleveland Browns
Cleveland is in a really weird spot. There’s no question that they need to find their signal caller of the future, but they also have a deep and oddly formatted quarterback room right now, which includes Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Taylen Green. If the Browns did make a move for Sorsby, that current room would need a bit of a makeover, but none of those options should stop them from taking a quarterback they like.
Arizona Cardinals
With a quarterback room of Jacoby Brissett, Carson Beck, and Gardner Minshew, it’s unlikely that the Cardinals have a long-term answer on the roster right now. Sorsby would walk in immediately and be the most talented quarterback on that roster. You could still be patient with him as the Cardinals proceed to stink in 2026.
Miami Dolphins
Malik Willis will have an opportunity to prove that he can be the quarterback of the future for the Dolphins. It is, however, still a low-stakes contract, which does give Miami some flexibility. That could open up an opportunity for the staff to invest in a very talented young signal caller. Willis could also provide a solid bridge of development as Sorsby gets comfortable.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are my top potential landing spot for Sorsby. With all due respect to Will Howard and Drew Allar, Sorsby is just more talented. With Aaron Rodgers back for a final season, Sorsby can learn behind him in a redshirt season. There are also some parallels to the play style of both players, and learning from Rodgers would be incredibly beneficial.
THE WILDCARDS
Here are some wildcard NFL teams to keep a close eye on to potentially draft Sorsby.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I would keep a close eye on the Buccaneers, especially with the looming contract questions around Baker Mayfield. There’s a world where Sorsby sits behind Mayfield for a year if Tampa Bay doesn’t think that rolling with Baker is best for the future. The Buccaneers are also a pretty good roster, which could provide flexibility to gamble a bit, no pun intended.
Minnesota Vikings
It appears that the Vikings are most likely going to start Kyler Murray this season, but his contract expires after this season. With the uncertainty around his long-term future with the team and the lack of development from JJ McCarthy, investing in another young quarterback could be wise. That’s especially true if the teams decide to try to trade McCarthy this offseason.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are on the hook for Daniel Jones for the next two seasons, but they could conceivably get out of the contract after the 2027 season. Regardless if they can or not, it’s hard to feel overly confident that Jones will be able to stay healthy and available. At the right valuation, Sorsby could be worth a dart throw as a backup with developmental upside. Indianapolis could be patient with him as he acclimates to the NFL level.
Atlanta Falcons
With the Falcons signing former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this offseason, there is clearly some uncertainty around the future of Michael Penix Jr. There’s a very real world where neither is the future of the offense, and with a new coaching staff in charge, they will want to find out. Sorsby could be brought along slowly in Atlanta, but firmly in position to start going into the 2027 season.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option in 2027, but there is still uncertainty for him in the long term. If the team has any doubt that Young is the guy, putting an investment into someone like Sorsby could be smart, at least at the right price. In the case that it’ll only cost a 3rd-4th rounder for Sorsby, you can paint it as a backup plan, but it is really a developmental investment for the future.
