Ohio State did most of their transfer portal work in the winter, though they were not as aggressive as they were the previous year.
Now that the spring transfer portal is here and will open on Wednesday, the Buckeyes aren’t expected to make many moves there either.
After the spring game, Ryan Day said that the Buckeyes would make additions if they needed to. A player who just hit the transfer portal may fit the bill.
Ohio State could be a fit for former Freshman All-American TJ Bush Jr.
Ohio State went to the trended portal to get Logan George from FCS school Idaho State and he had a strong spring with the Buckeyes and flashed his skills in the spring game. Now, Ohio State could be a fit to go grab another small school standout.
TJ Bush Jr. was a Freshman All-American and All-Conference USA player for Liberty, where he had 90 tackles and 7.5 sacks over the last couple of seasons. Bush is expected to land with a Power Four program and will have plenty of suitors.
After losing J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, the Buckeyes are replacing a lot of production and snaps. Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson are next up but Ohio State isn’t all that deep after them. Bringing in another capable pass rusher would be good for this year and beyond since Bush has two years of eligibility remaining.
Zion Grady is a freshman and will eventually be a key piece for the Buckeyes, but that may not happen in 2015. CJ Hicks has one more season with the team after making a switch to be a full-time pass rusher. It would be interesting to see what defensive line coach Larry Johnson could get out of Bush with two seasons to work with him.
Ohio State can’t contact outside players until the portal officially opens on Wednesday, but Bush could be a name to watch. At 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, Bush has the size to make the talent jump. We’ll see if Columbus is a potential landing spot.
