Former Oregon Ducks left tackle Josh Conerly Jr is on his way to the NFL, likely as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. His combine testing proved it, showcasing his athleticism for a true offensive tackle.
Like many, Conerly thinks very highly of his former coach, Dan Lanning. When asked about Lanning at the Combine, Conerly raved.
"There is nobody like that. He comes in as the same person every day and that transcended throughout the building. It affected everytbody. Not just the players, everybody around the staff. He made sure everybody was seen and heard."
Before the Big Ten Championship Game against Penn State, Lanning publicly challenged Conerly to shut down Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, a player that's in the conversation to go first overall in April. Carter was able to get some pressure, but never got home for a sack. Going against a player of that level, you call that one a win.
"It was shocking in the moment but that was my plan anyways," Conerly said when asked about the challenge from Lanning. "I feel like I played okay. There are some plays that I could have been a lot better, but for the most part, [Carter's] impact was minimal."
Lanning presence in the Oregon program has been tremendous, and Conerly points to it in saying that his leadership permeates throughout the entire building, making sure that everyone has a place at the table. Lanning is a leader, and has the Ducks sending tons of talent to the NFL this year. The Ducks are building something that will be a force on the national stage for years to come.
