Head coach Jon Sumrall is loading up Brad White’s defense with blue-chip recruits who will fortify an already talented unit.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall is doing an insane job recruiting the high school ranks. Going into this weekend, Sumrall had already secured 19 commitments over the course of the last few months, and he’s continuing that during official visit season.
Friday morning brought another blue-chip recruit on the defensive side of the football in four-star defensive lineman Cahron Wheeler. He announced his commitment at the team’s dinner in The Swamp on Thursday night.

Florida Gators secure commitment from four-star DL Cahron Wheeler
Wheeler is now the fifth player on the defensive line, and the first recruit designated as an edge rusher in the class of 2027. At 6-5 and 245 pounds, Wheeler is the Gators’ first commit out of Maryland, and he the No. 6 ranked recruit in the class. Wheeler is the No. 14 overall edge rusehr and 90th nationally per Rivals.
The defensive line continuing to have pieces added to it is huge for the Gators, and Sumrall understands that you win football games at the college level by developing the trenches. Four of their top seven commitments are in the trenches, highlighting a great job by offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and defensive line coach Gerald Chatman.
