Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall is dominanting the recruiting trail right now. Over the first six months, recruiting has been a major focus. This week, things have been going very well for the Gators, as Sumrall has landed a fifth commit, with this one being three-star athlete Kamarion Johnson, picking the Gators over the Cincinnati Bearcats and Florida State Seminoles.

Florida Gators 2027 Recruiting Class

  • In Jon Sumrall’s first season, the Florida Gators have the No. 5 overall recruiting class with 21 commitments.
  • Among their commitments, four of their top ones are on the offensive line, including five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
  • Sumrall is chasing multiple five-star recruits, including two at wide receiver.

The Gators have done a really good job recruiting across the board, and they have been very intentional with their process. It resonated with Johnson, as Gators Online highlighted that his recruitment didn’t focus on any singular position, just wanting to get him in Gainesville.

Rather than focusing on one specific position, Florida recruited Johnson as an overall football player. The staff made it clear they wanted him in Gainesville first and would sort out the details later. That message resonated because of the versatility Johnson brings to the field.
“Coach Collins is a great dude and I will probably play under him one day. He’s just a great dude,” said Johnson. “Coach McKnight, he is a very honest dude. He is a very confident and caring dude and he just loves football.”

It’s a great sign to see the Gators be open minded with their recruiting process, especially with a player like Johnson. Sumrall has now landed 21 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class.
