Ohio State football’s new uniforms are great, but they come with unfortunate reality for the Buckeyes in 2026
Ohio State got fans excited on Monday with new uniforms being revealed with an update version of the “Tunnel Vision” alternates. However, fans deserve better than what’s probably coming for Ohio State and the new uniforms in 2026.
There are a few months until Ohio State football will be back in action, but the start of this week was a fun sneak peek at what’s coming with the new uniform.
Ohio State revealed its black uniforms are coming back for the first time since 2022 this season. The “Tunnel Vision” uniforms have returned for Ohio State with gray stripes on the sleeve to resemble the helmet. Ohio State is expected to have the gray stripes on the sleeves of all of its uniforms.
New look Buckeyes probably won’t get the opportunity they deserve for the black uniforms
The black uniforms deserve the opportunity to be worn in a night game in Columbus. Fans blacking out The Shoe with the team wearing the alternate uniforms is what fans should get to see against a key opponent. Unfortunately, Ohio State’s schedule isn’t really set up for any of its home games to end up being a night game.
Ohio State will play Oregon and Michigan at home this season with those two opponents being the only premier opponents. The game against the Wolverines is already scheduled for noon ET like it always is. Oregon traveling to Ohio State is all but a lock to be a Big Noon Kickoff game. Nov. 7 will be a huge one in Columbus and Fox is going to want the game for a noon kick.
The black uniforms are really popular amongst Buckeye Nation but the gray sleeves have been missed since 2006. Ohio State has brought back the sleeves on special occasions since then, but it’s been a missing piece of the uniform that’s been missed for well over a decade. Fans have wanted those back as well and now they have them.
Ohio State not getting big home night games looks like it’s going to be a problem again in 2026. It’s an unfortunate part of the Big Ten TV deal with Fox, and it’s going to show up again.
