Aggies should capitalize on chaos with SEC rival to circle back and add insult to injury by adding elite 2026 recruit
Texas A&M and Mike Elko should re-open their pursuit of elite 2026 recruit Lamar Brown with Brian Kelly’s firing from LSU
The Texas A&M Aggies woke up Sunday morning celebrating a historic victory over the LSU Tigers. That win gave them their first 8-0 start since 1992 and was their largest margin of victory over LSU in Baton Rouge ever. The Aggies’ 49 points were the most they had ever scored on the Tigers as well. Their dominant showing on the road saw them take over Death Valley in a win that was personal for many.
That dominant victory proved to be the final nail in the coffin for LSU head coach Brian Kelly. Kelly, who entered the game on the hot seat, was seen yelling at coaches and players on the sideline and was late to his postgame press conference by over half an hour. On Sunday, the LSU decision makers pulled the trigger, firing Kelly and naming RBs coach Frank Wilson the interim for the remainder of the season.
With this upheaval at LSU, the Aggies should smell blood in the water here and a chance to make their historic victory even sweeter by coaxing some of LSU’s commits in the 2026 recruiting class to join their ranks. Most notably, the number-one defensive lineman in the class and top-five recruit Lamar Brown.
Could A&M bring Lamar Brown into 2026 class with Brian Kelly gone?
On his commitment date back in July, Brown was primarily choosing between the Tigers and Aggies. The 6’4, 285-pound defensive tackle ultimately decided to stay in-state and go with the Tigers, who have developed their fair share of quality defensive linemen over the years.
However, could that be changing with Kelly gone? Who knows if any of the coaches that recruited him to LSU will be around under the new coaching staff? All those connections on campus now seem out the window. Given that the Aggies aren’t likely to lose many (if any) coaches in the coaching carousel, the connections that Brown built with A&M will still be in place, and the coaches that recruited him will still be around on Early Signing Day.
It will still be tough to pull Brown out of state. Louisiana kids are very loyal to in-state schools, and Brown chose LSU over A&M for more reasons than just Brian Kelly. I’m willing to bet that Elko and co. are sensing they have a shot at adding a program-changing caliber recruit in Brown, and they’d be wise to pull out all the stops to bring him to College Station.
