The Florida Gators have the No. 5 overall recruiting class for 2027, and head coach Jon Sumrall is far from done. He has landed another commitment in the 2027 class, with three-star linebacker Robert Geathers III committing on Thursday.

He is the third linebacker to commit to the program, joining four-star linebacker Ja’Bios Smith and four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin.

Florida Gators 2027 Recruiting Class

  • In Jon Sumrall’s first season, the Florida Gators have the No. 5 overall recruiting class with 23 commitments.
  • Among their commitments, three of their top ones are on the offensive line, including five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
  • Sumrall is chasing multiple five-star recruits, including two at wide receiver.

Geathers is a nice addition to the Gators’ class, as Sumrall continues to look everywhere for talent. He currently ranks as the No. 566 overall recruit and the No. 49 linebacker per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking. The real intrigue is there from an on-field and lineage perspective. His father played at Georgia and was a fourth-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2004. He then spent 10 years in the league, along with his grandfather, Robert Geathers Sr, who was a third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 1981, and his great uncle, James Geathers, also played 13 seasons.

It’s a major upside play for the Gators, who have made multiple lower three-star recruits a priority, believing they are undervalued. We’ve seen how good Sumrall has been during his career at developing talent, and this could be another aspect.

Sumrall’s class of 2027 now stands at 22 commitments.
